Baking Dreams and Beating Doubts
As some of you know, Ohio Baking Co. has been in the works since late spring of 2024. But the idea? That’s been floating around for years, but it just never quite had legs. We went through plenty of conversations (and more than a few half-baked ideas) before finally landing on something that felt right.
Funny enough, “Ohio Baking Company” wasn’t even our first choice for the name. Originally, we were planning to call it “Ryan’s Rolls”, but it never really stuck. Check out some of our early logo designs! We sure did improve on it!
Shi was the big push behind finally digging our heels in. Her encouragement got the wheels turning. From registering the LLC to designing the logo and obsessing over all the little details, we dove in headfirst. Honestly, if we could’ve started baking and selling that same day, we would’ve. No question.
But once we got into the nitty-gritty, the self-doubt crept in. Was the recipe actually good enough? Were we happy with it? How would we package these cinnamon rolls? How would we market them? You name it, we questioned it. Starting something new is exciting, but it can also be overwhelming. And since we’re both natural planners, the more we tried to “do it right,” the more we delayed jumping in with both feet.
Then there was the recipe. We spent, honestly, who even knows how much time testing, tweaking, retesting. We had a vision for the perfect texture and flavor, and we weren’t stopping until we nailed it. By the end, the recipe felt almost entirely new, but it was 100% ours. And finally, it felt right.
A little backstory for the cinnamon roll fans out there: I (Ryan) started baking cinnamon rolls because I couldn’t find one with enough actual cinnamon in it. You’d buy one, take a bite and wonder where the flavor was hiding. So I took matters into my own hands. For me, the cinnamon should be bold and front-and-center, not just an afterthought.
Now, we’ve checked off some big milestones and we’re feeling way more confident about what’s ahead. For those of you who’ve been patiently waiting, thank you. Seriously, it means the world.
